Photo Gallery | Harvest Hope Shelves Almost Empty

Facing five more weeks of high demand before the end of summer, Harvest Hope is experiencing drastic food shortages and is looking for means to increase food inventory.

In June the food bank saw an average of 325 families A DAY at the Emergency Food Pantries on Shop Road and on 12th Street in Cayce, and provided food for over 6,820 families during the month. This is an increase of more than 800 families over June of 2011.

This summer Harvest Hope has distributed almost one million pounds of food A WEEK to make sure they do not have turn anyone away. Even though donation levels remain consistent with last year, the increase in demand over last year has dwindled and almost depleted their food supplies. Shelves are empty – but hungry families are turning to them in greater numbers than ever.

Currently Harvest Hope’s warehouse on Shop Road is down by over 300,000 pounds of food. They have barely 9 pallets of food in their freezer, which is less than one full day of service.

Harvest Hope dedicates 98¢out of every dollar donated to feeding hungry people and can purchase five pounds of food for a dollar, or the equivalent of five meals. Donations can make an immediate impact on food inventory levels, and will put food on the table of hungry families right away.

The fastest and most convenient way to help out is to donate online at www.harvesthope.org, or call to ask how you can organize a food drive to help provide canned goods and shelf stable food at 803.466.2250
