Photo Gallery | Winner announced in Cayce’s Calendar Photo Contest

Amateur photographers from around the Midlands submitted images showcasing the City of Cayce in hopes of being selected for the fifth annual citizens’ calendar, a popular item with local residents. Out of 25 submissions, local art teachers chose 13 winning photos to fill the calendar pages and grace the cover.

“Cayce has so much natural beauty, character and charm, it’s a great place to capture images on film,” says Cayce Mayor Elise Partin. “We are thrilled that this contest has become a favorite tradition and a chance for amateur photographers to showcase their work.”

The first place photo, which will appear on the cover of the new calendar, was taken by 35-year Cayce resident Charles Hite. Hite also captured the photo that was selected for last year’s cover and has had photos featured in the calendar for the last four years.

“The Congaree River has become very popular for recreation and relaxation. That was my inspiration; being down at the river at a peaceful time of day and capturing the serenity of the colors that change very minute first thing in the morning,” Hite says about his winning photo.

Hite also submitted an additional photo, Cayce Museum at Christmas, which was selected as December’s photograph for the calendar.

As the first-place winner, Hite was honored at the July 3 City Council meeting and received a $100 prize, a t-shirt, and a copy of the “Reflections of Cayce” poster that hangs in Cayce City Hall.

Runners up for the contest who each have at least one photo featured in the calendar are Stephen Milligan, Gabriel McGee, JoAnne Boulware, Geneva Womack, Ann Helms, Pat Kasko, and Nicholas McGee.

Cayce residents are encouraged to stop by City Hall to pick up calendars, which are filled with helpful information and important dates.

The annual photo contest takes place every spring and is open to amateur photographers across South Carolina. More information and deadlines will be posted on the City of Cayce website: www.cityofcayce-sc.gov.
