As Tax Deadline Approaches, Remember Your State Forests

 

As the deadline draws near, the South Carolina Forestry Commission is urging tax filers to remember forests when submitting their state returns.

 

This tax season marks the third year taxpayers anticipating a refund will have an option to contribute all or part of it to sustaining state-owned forestlands.  The General Assembly passed an income tax check off creating the SC State Forests Fund during the 2010 Legislative Session.

Camden hosts SC Horse Expo on Feb. 9

 

The South Carolina Horsemen’s Association Expo will be held at the S.C. Equine Park in Camden Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. The day-long expo features a myriad of horse-related activities for the hobbyist to the professional rider.

The Expo has four presentations scheduled in the main arena, with concurrent demonstrations in separate areas. There will also be a horse health pavilion, children’s activities, and a silent auction along with numerous vendors.

Free Fridays are back at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden! Residents of Richland and Lexington counties will receive free admission to the Zoo and Garden every Friday during the months of January and February. Guests will be asked to provide a valid driver’s license or property tax statement as proof of residency.

Zoo offering free admission to military kids and dads

The Riverbanks Zoo and Garden has teamed up with Operation Military Kids to offer free admission to all children of deployed military personnel, as well as those kids who’ve had a parent return from deployment within the last year on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17.

In order for children to receive free admission, military families must provide a copy of the parent’s deployment orders.
