The Doby’s Mill Elementary School Dolphins are proud to be named a 2013 National School of Character. Dobys’ Mill Elementary is only one of 29 schools and districts in the United States to receive this award and is only one of three Palmetto State Schools to receive this national award.

 “Schools of Character are places that foster more than just academic growth—these are nurturing educational communities that support parents in their most important job—raising good kids,” said National Schools of Character Director Lara Maupin.

A spring growers meeting to discuss compliance with labor rules and regulations is set for May 14 at the State Farmers Market, 3483 Charleston Highway, West Columbia.  The meeting is at 9 a.m. at the Phillips Market Center.

Representatives from the United State Department of Labor will present information important to farmers and growers and the operations they run. The meeting is open to all growers, labor industry professionals and agribusiness industry representatives. The session will include a question and answer time.

DEA’s sixth pill take back event yields fruitful results in SC

 

South Carolinians participating in the United States Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA’s) sixth National Prescription Drug Take-Back event on Saturday, April 27, 2013, turned in 4,701 pounds of unwanted or expired medications for safe and proper disposal at sites set up throughout the state. This exceeded the last take back total in September, 2012, which was 3,539 pounds.
