The first named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season has formed and could potentially affect South Carolina.  The National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center expect Tropical Storm Andrea to produce heavy rain and wind in many parts of the state beginning tonight and lasting through Friday morning.  The S.C. Emergency Management Division, county emergency managers and state agencies are watching the latest forecasts and planning as necessary.

Hurricane season is officially here, and the American Red Cross is urging all South Carolinians to take the time now to prepare for what could be very active season. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), this year is predicted to be an above-average hurricane season with a 70 percent likelihood of 13 to 20 named storms, of which 7 to 11 could become hurricanes, including 3 to 6 major hurricanes.

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS)- Investigators have arrested one man and are looking for another after the two allegedly held an Elgin couple and young child at gunpoint shortly after they identified themselves as employees of a cable company.

Kershaw County Sheriff's deputies on Friday arrested 26-year-old Maurice Williams of Ridgeway on warrants charging him with first-degree burglary, armed robbery and kidnapping after determining that he and another individual were involved in the crime.
