Scholarships available for career programs through Midlands Tech | News
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – A new career could be at your fingertips with the help of a program through Midlands Technical College.
This year the Midlands Tech QuickJobs Program has been given more than $1.7 million in funding from the state, as well as, private donors.
Much of the funding is being used for student scholarships in everything from business, computer technology, and construction to healthcare and manufacturing.
Program directors say they're eager to get students in high-demand jobs because potential employers say there's currently a skills gap locally and nationwide.
"There are employers who have needs for employees, but they can't find employees who have the correct skills for the job openings they have," said Cathy Pitts, the Executive Director of Programs at Midlands Tech. "In fact, it's estimated that there will be about 20,000 job openings between now and 2020, and employers are really anxious to find people to fill those spots."
Pitts says the programs take about three months to complete and many students are hired into jobs before they even finish the program.
To be eligible for a scholarship through the QuickJobs program, you have to attend an information session and take a test.
There are two sessions coming up on October 14th and October 15th. For more information click here.
