KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a single-car crash that killed a Camden High School student early Sunday morning.
Troopers say a driver lost control of a Ford Mustang on Haile Street north of Camden and hit a tree.
Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers says 17-year-old Ryan Wyatt Simpson of Camden died at the scene.
Investigators say Simpson was not wearing a seat belt. There were no other people in the car.
The crash remains under investigation.
Mary Anne Byrd with the Kershaw County School District said Simpson was a Junior at Camden High School and took vocational courses at ATEC. Byrd said Simpson was involved in ROTC and planned to go into the military.
Camden High School students do not have class Monday, but Byrd said grief counselors will be available for students on Tuesday.
