Sheriff says man wanted in drug deal rammed deputy's cruiser | Crime
KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Deputies in Kershaw County say they caught up with a man they witnessed organize a drug deal and rammed a patrol vehicle while trying to flee.
Deputies arrested 23-year-old Anthony Lorenzo Jackson Wednesday after they say they saw him involved in a drug deal with another man who has a criminal history of drug charges. The alleged deal went down at the Sherwood Apartments in Lugoff.
Kershaw County Sheriff James Matthews says as deputies tried to stop Jackson in the parking lot, he drove off. Matthews says Jackson hit a tree, drove through a yard and hit several signs on U.S.1. As Jackson attempted to turn into the Camden Walmart parking lot, Matthews says he drove into a marked patrol vehicle, causing moderate damage.
Deputies blocked Jackson's vehicle in the Kmart parking lot and he surrendered.
Mathews says deputies found marijuana packaged for sale, a handgun and about $2,200 on Jackson.
Jackson is charged with failure to stop for a blue light, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and aggravated assault. At the time of the arrest, Matthews says Jackson was out on bond for a previous drug charge. He is awaiting a bond hearing at the Kershaw Count Detention Center.
“When Jackson fled and intentionally rammed the deputy, he took this incident to a level far higher than what he would have been charged with had he just given up at first," Matthews said. "His actions needlessly endangered innocent lives above and beyond the damage his drug dealing does to our community. We will keep the pressure on these drug dealers in Kershaw County 24/7.”
