CAMDEN, SC (WIS) - Camden Police say a homeowner came home to find a person in his house and wearing his wife's jewelry.
According to the police report, the homeowner and his wife were checking their property on Broad Street Sunday when he found the house bad been broken into and an unknown woman hiding in the bedroom. The man told police the woman tried to run, but he held her until officers arrived. He told officers the house had been vacant for three days.
The woman's name is Stacie Patrice McCullough, 33.
McCullough told police she was going door to door collecting money for churches, saw the open door and went into the house to see if the people inside were all right.
Police found the shower had been recently used, there was a blanket, pillow and stuffed animal on the bedroom floor, and a TV that the homeowner said was in the front room had been moved into the bedroom. Police say they also found food in the house that may have come from a food pantry. The homeowners said the food was not theirs.
Police say McCullough admitted moving the television. As police talked to her, the homeowner's wife noticed McCullough was wearing a necklace and earrings that belonged to her.
While police were there, a neighbor told officers he noticed McCullough walking around the neighborhood for the past week and that a package was missing from her front porch. Officers found what was left of the package in the trash.
McCullough was charged with burglary.
