Deputies arrested a Camden man they say stabbed another man following a verbal altercation.
Kershaw County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 18-year-old Paul Franklin Washington after he stabbed Peyton Darvis Johnson in the chest following a argument.
According to Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews, on June 21, deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at the River Winds Apartments in Camden. The victim, Peyton Johnson, had been stabbed once in the chest, the report stated.
Johnson and several other witnesses identified Washington as the assailant. Sheriff’s investigators obtained a warrant charging Washington with Assault and Battery (1st degree).
Investigators began looking for Washington who was eventually arrested by a uniformed officer on June 29, and taken into custody.
During a post arrest interview, Washington admitted to stabbing Johnson who remains in the hospital in critical but stable condition.
“People need to learn to walk away from an argument before it escalates to this type of violence. Now an 18-year-old young man faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted of this crime and another man lies in a hospital bed in intensive care fighting for his life,” said Sheriff Matthews.
Washington is currently being detained in the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
