Tish Lowe to Present Salon Talk in Bassett Gallery

Camden, SC – November 2, 2012 -- The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County is pleased to announce that Letitia “Tish” Lowe, whose solo exhibition “Contemporary Classics” runs through November 30 at the Bassett Gallery, will present a salon talk, “Realism in the 21st Century,” at noon on Wednesday, November 14, in the Bassett Gallery.  The Salon Talk is free and the public is invited to attend.

* "Realism in the 21st Century"

In realist paintings one can recognize a specific person, object or landscape.  Following decades of abstract and modernist paintings, since the late 20th century there has been a resurgence of interest in realist art. Paintings which could have been picked up for a song at garage sales only a few years ago now sell at major auction houses for hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars. A growing number of art schools and ateliers are now training students in classic realist techniques of the Renaissance and 19th century academies. Realism in the 21st century can range from the classic realism to photorealism, hyperrealism, surrealism, fantasy, and computer enhanced images.  During the salon talk, Lowe will present an artist’s perspective on 21st century realism and will discuss various paintings in the exhibition.
