The S.C. Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Voices Against Violence Committee is collecting personal care items for its 2012 Necessities and Paper Products Drive. Items will be donated to various domestic violence shelters throughout the state.

Red Cross Encourages Fire Safety during National Fire Prevention Week

This October 7-13 the American Red Cross encourages families and businesses to learn how to protect themselves and others from fires in observance of National Fire Prevention Week.  Last year, the Red Cross responded to about 63,000 home fires across the country by providing comfort and basic necessities to more than 82,000 families.

Major expansion of S.C. State Museum to break ground

On Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at 10 a.m., the South Carolina State Museum will officially break ground on its long-planned major expansion, Windows to New Worlds.

 

The $23 million expansion will add a state-of-the-art observatory, digital dome planetarium and theater, and immersive 4D Theater to the museum’s four floors of art, history, natural history and science/technology.

 

The expansion will add or renovate approximately 70,000 square feet of space at the museum’s historic building at 301 Gervais St. in Columbia.

Coroner identifies 2 killed in head-on crash

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS)- The Kershaw County Coroner has identified two people killed in a head-on crash near Cassatt Saturday.

Troopers say just after 3 p.m. Saturday, the driver of a vehicle headed north on US 1 crossed the center line south of Cassatt and sideswiped a pickup truck headed south.  The vehicle then crashed head-on into another southbound vehicle, killing both drivers.
